Independent Respite Initiative

This program provides short-term relief in the child or adult's own home. The child or adult must be developmentally challenged.

The family is provided with the funding to hire their own worker that will provide the respite.

An average annual allotment of hours would be (i.e. 200 hours per year with the average hourly rate of $7.00 an hour).

This program is 100% funded by the United Way and provision of this service is dependent on the renewal of their financial support.

Benefits to the Individual and Family
The family is provided with short-term respite which enables them to have personal quality time while knowing their child is well cared for. The program also permits them to spend time with their other children, family members, etc. It also provides them with an opportunity to rest and relax.

Families can utilize the respite hours to meet their needs (i.e. weekends, summer, evenings).

All referrals for Independent Respite Services are processed through the Centre's Intake Clerk.
